The Road Safety Markings Association (RSMA) has this week been approved as a Kickstart Gateway Provider for the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.
The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to employers to create job placements for 16 to 24 year olds and is part of the Government’s ‘Plan for Jobs’; it aims to create thousands of new, fully funded jobs across England, Scotland and Wales.
For each job placement, Government funding will cover:
- 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week
- The associated employer National Insurance contributions
- Employer minimum automatic enrolment (pension) contributions.
The Kickstart Scheme initially focussed on companies able to offer 30 or more job placements which, unfortunately, prevented RSMA members from participating in the Scheme as their businesses did not have the capacity for such a large number.
The RSMA felt it important to ensure that members were not disadvantaged by these terms and has successfully applied to become a Gateway Provider for its members. In essence, the RSMA administers the Scheme on behalf of its members and acts as a hub into which members pool their placement opportunities; member companies do not therefore have to provide a minimum number of placements to access the scheme.
Stu McInroy, Chief Executive of the RSMA, said: “I’m delighted that the RSMA has been approved as a Kickstart Gateway Provider. ‘New blood’ is vital to the long-term sustainability of any industry and after a year of uncertainty, we wanted to do as much as we could to support members and facilitate these placements. This Scheme will support members and wider communities and is much needed after a particularly challenging year for the country.
“Government initiatives tend to overlook SMEs and in this case their ability to offer opportunities to young people. This approval is a win for Government, a win for our members but most importantly a win for the young people who will benefit.”
A number of RSMA members have already signed up to the Scheme, which will commence in the New Year.
