Every year the RSMA supports Construction Week, which takes place at Lincolnshire Showground and is organised by Lincolnshire Training Group.
This year’s 3 day event will take place on 1st - 3rd October, and is a hands on insight into construction aimed at 5-18 year olds.
Last year, with the help of Jointline and WJ South, we did a demonstration of Road Marking techniques using cold water based paints, airless spray machines and hand marking applied techniques using soft sand as an analogue for road marking thermoplastics. We are planning to use those activities again this year as they were very well received last year.
This year they already have 1400 children confirmed to attend over the three days, which is triple the amount from last year. Each supporter does a three 40 minute ‘have-a-go’ sessions each day, and can sign up to one, two or the whole three days.
On the Wednesday afternoon the event is opened up to adults in the area. Lincolnshire has at least 5 military bases, and I have been liaising with CTP and Buildforce who are committed to help advertise for us. The idea is more a chat and talk about roles in the organisations. They might be based in Lincolnshire now, but when they resettle, they may reside anywhere. As well as the Military we also have the unemployed, return to work, and career changers.
As the sign up from schools has tripled from last year, we are looking to increase our offering. It does not have to be line marking, just construction based, and something that can be adapted to 5-18 year olds, to practically have a go at for 40 minutes.
If you would like to get involved, or alternatively, can think of another practical demonstration we could do, or are able to share some resources for an activity please let me know at email@example.com and I will co-ordinate.
