Every year the RSMA supports Construction Week, which takes place at Lincolnshire Showground and is organised by Lincolnshire Training Group.
The event is held in October, and is a hands on insight into construction aimed at 5-18 year old.
This year, with the help of WJ South, we did a demonstration of Road Marking techniques using hand marking applied techniques using soft sand as an analogue for road marking thermoplastics.
We had approximately 200 children visit us at the event.
On the Wednesday afternoon the event is opened up to adults in the area. The idea is more a chat and talk about roles in the organisations. The afternoon event was a huge success and we have been able to match up 2 long term unemployed with 4 week work experience program with a member.
As the sign up from schools has tripled from last year, we are looking to increase our offering for next year. It does not have to be line marking, just construction based, and something that can be adapted to 5-18 year olds, to practically have a go at for 40 minutes.
If you would like to get involved, or alternatively, can think of another practical demonstration we could do, or are able to share some resources for an activity please let me know at email@example.com and I will co-ordinate.
Here are some pictures from the successful event.
